Pallet Stretch Wrapping: Details That Matter

Pay attention to stacking, film overlap and tail fastening to make pallet wrapping more consistent in everyday handling.

Wrapping performance depends on film specification, load stacking and the wrapping method. A few checks before and after wrapping can help identify loose film, tears and poorly secured tails.

Check the Stack and Load Shape First

Check the condition of the pallet and cartons, the stability of the stack and any protruding corners that could damage the film. Where needed, arrange corner protectors, layer pads or other protection to suit the goods.

Maintain Coverage During Wrapping

Begin at the bottom, maintain suitable tension and overlap, and progressively cover the load. Set film layers and machine parameters according to the load's weight, shape and trial results, rather than applying one setting to every load.

Inspect the Film Tail and Finished Wrap

After wrapping, check that the film tail is secured, look for tears and inspect the top, middle and bottom for visibly loose areas. Keep a record of the film specification and wrapping settings during repeat operations to support handovers and future checks.

Assess the Complete Transport Arrangement

Stretch film consolidates the outside of a load. It does not replace pallets, cartons, structural support or other required transport restraints. Before adopting a new film specification at scale, assess the complete packaging arrangement under the intended handling and transport conditions.
